What happened to the movie industry?

I remember a few movies out and most of them can hold a candle. Today, It's toys for kids, even the greats have sold out to cartoon like movies. It saddens me to see this happening. The news paper needs more then one page so the idiots can decide between the bad movies. When did this start and how did it start?
